We use a coaching style in upbringing and education. Coaching is based on these principles.
1️⃣ USE REQUESTS, not orders
In upbringing we do not just tell children what to do – WE ASK THEM.
We ask them questions to guide them, to find out their reasons, feelings, motivation.
When we want children to do something (to clean, to sit down, to listen, to eat) we MUST NOT TELL them to do it, we MUST ASK them. Can you, please, clean up? Can you, please, sit down? Will you eat, please?
It will set a respectful tone for your communication and child will do it more readily.
2️⃣ Ask WHY?
If there are behavior problems, ASK the child what happened, WHY he did it. Try to get his/her point.
For example: do not just say – WE DO NOT FIGHT. REPEAT – WE DO NOT FIGHT; WE KEEP OUR HANDS TO OURSELVES.
ASK the child – WHY did you decide to hit him? WERE you angry with him or upset? WHAT could you have done instead of hitting them?
This will help the child to develop independence and problem-solving skills, as next time he will act according to his acknowledge and experience, not according to whatever teacher/nanny told him.
The more the child comes to a conclusion by him/herself the more likely will their behavior change.
3️⃣ Use ACTIVE LEARNING
In class it is very important to guide children and ask them to look for information – this is a part of ACTIVE LEARNING, when children do not LISTEN TO THE TEACHER’S SPEECH but look and find answers BY THEMSELVES.
It is the best way for children to LEARN, UNDERSTAND and REMEMBER the information.
