French Children’s Poems and Rhymes

French as no other language offers a wide variety of songs and rhymes that are made into games. Therefore, learning to understand and speak French will be easy for your child as these games are fun to play! Here you can find some French children’s  poems about animals, people, weather and other things.

We use a lot of French children’s rhymes, action rhymes and poems in our French club for children in Moscow.

MAINS EN L’AIRE HANDS UP
Mains en l’air Hands up
Sur la tête On your head
Aux épaules On your shoulders
Et en avant And in the front
Bras croisés Arms crossed
Sur les côtés On your sides
Moulinet Roll your hands
Et l’on se tait! And be quiet!

ATCHOUM! ACHOO!
Le soleil s’est caché The sun is hiding
Atchoum ! Achoo!
L’hiver est arrivé Winter has come
Atchoum ! Achoo!
Le ciel s’est enrhumé The sky is sick
Atchoum ! Achoo!
Il a éternué It is sneezing
AAAAAAAtchoum ! AAAAAAchoo!
Des milliers de flocons Thousands of snowflakes
Sur les toits des maisons. On the roofs of houses.

IL NEIGE IT IS SNOWING
Il neige, il neige, il neige sur les toits It’s snowing, it’s snowing, it’s snowing on the roofs
Il neige sur papa, maman It’s snowing on my father and mother
Et puis sur toi et moi. And then on you and me.

La fourmi m’a piquée la main The ant bit my hand
La coquine, la coquine, The naughty, the naughty,
La fourmi m’a piquée la main The ant bit my hand
La coquine elle avait faim The naughty – it was hungry.
Une abeille m’a pique l’oreille The bee bit my ear
La coquine, la coquina The naughty, the naughty,
Une abeille m’a pique l Oreille The bee bit my ear
La coquine elle avait faim The naughty – it was hungry.
Une araignée m’a pique le pied The spider bit my foot
La coquine, la coquina The naughty, the naughty,
Une araignée m’a pique le pied The spider bit my foot
La coquine elle avait faim. The naughty – it was hungry.

QUI SE CACHE ? WHO IS HIDING?
Qui se cache dans mon dos ? Who is hiding behind my back?
Ce sont mes petites mains coquines. These are my little naughty hands.
Qui se cache dans mes mains ? Who is hiding in my hands?
Ce sont mes petits doigts coquins. These are my little naughty fingers.
Qui se cache dans ma bouche? Who is hiding in my mouth?
C’est une langue qui bouge. It’s my tongue that moves.
Qui se cache dans mes souliers? Who is hiding in my little shoes?
Ce sont mes deux petits pieds These are my two little feet.

PAROLE DE LA JUMENT DE MICHAO WORDS OF MICHAO’S HORSE
C’est dans 10 ans je m’en irai  In 10 year I will disappear,
J’entends le loup, le renard chanter I hear a wolf and a fox singing
C’est dans 10 ans je m’en irai In 10 years I will disappear,
J’entends le loup, le renard chanter I hear a wolf and a fox singing
J’entends le loup, le renard et la belette, I hear a wolf, a fox  and a weasel,
J’entends le loup, et le renard chanter I hear a wolf and a fox singing.

Poems in French with translation into English help you understand the meaning of each line of the poem. An English translation of French rhymes for children does not mean that French children’s poems are translated word by word. A literary English translation and pictures help you get the general idea and message of the children’s rhyme trather than the exact meaning of each word.
